All residential buildings with mosaics in Tashkent have been cleared of advertising banners, the city hokimiyat and Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation said. Over two months, more than 40 mosaics have been uncovered, and some 30 more works have been returned to the public since 2021.
Government of Uzbekistan included about 160 mosaic panels on buildings in Tashkent and other cities and districts to the national list of tangible cultural heritage. Many of these mosaics have been destroyed or painted in the previous years, some are obscured by advertising banners.
